A Moroccan pouf is a piece of furniture that can be used as a seat, a cushion, a table or just as a decoration. Moroccan poufs come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. While the square ones are great, the round ones are more popular.

Poufs mean a lot of fillings. To be perfectly shaped a Moroccan pouf needs to be filled to the MAX. It can be filled with different things including polyester stuffing, old clothes, and textile, or a mix of all of these.

Morocco is known for its stinking leather tanneries in Fez and Marrakech. Therefore, it is the best place to buy all kinds of leather products, including poufs. Having a piece of real leather furniture can add a fancy touch to your home.

Real leather poufs are made of camel or goat skin and it is dyed which means you can have different colors. My favorite is the classic tan Moroccan pouf with white or beige embroidery.

If you like how a real leather pouf looks and for some reason you can’t find it, worry not, Moroccan poufs are also made of faux leather and you know what, they still look fabulous.

These rustic Moroccan poufs are irresistible. They are made of wool or cotton the same way a Moroccan rug is made and then hand-sewed. Kilim Moroccan poufs are usually made in a square or rectangle. The vintage style and colors make them versatile and can change the look of your space.

While buying stuffed and ready-to-use poufs is the best way to go, unstuffed ones can come in very handy when you have a lot of old clothes and textiles to hide. Also, unstuffed poufs are perfect for travel journeys. if you are visiting Morocco and want to buy a pouf as a souvenir, you don’t want to travel back home with a massive pillow in your luggage.

The Moroccan pouf is a handy piece of furniture no matter where you use it. And these are some of the ways you can use a Moroccan pouf.

Decoration: In addition to a vintage Moroccan rug, Moroccan poufs are another great item to add an authentic Moroccan touch to your space. It will stand out and add a unique style whether you place it in your lounge, bedroom, or balcony.

Foot support: Place your pouf next to your couch or chair to have it ready when you feel like stretching your feet while reading a book or watching a Netflix movie.

Extra seat: It’s a big cushion after all. You can use it when you need an extra chair in the lounge or the room.

Table: After a few days of use, the surface will become flat allowing you to use it as a handy table. You can put your decorations, magazines or even use the pouf as a coffee table.

Shopping in Morocco YAY! You will find this gorgeous pouf everywhere in the souqs, especially in Marrakech or Fez markets. The number of different poufs available might come as a surprise but don’t worry you will end up finding the right pouf for you.

First decide what type of Moroccan poufs you like (real leather, faux leather, or kilim), what color, and where you want to place it in your home. While strolling in the souk, stop and ask about the prices and keep going, don’t rush into buying the first one you see. Once you find the one you like, bargain and ask for a huge discount.

Pro Travel Tip: If you are buying more than 1 stuffed Moroccan pouf, ask the shopkeeper if they can deliver them to your country to avoid taking heavy luggage with you.

It is also possible to buy Moroccan poufs online. However, it’s not always easy to find the right one. Not like if you can see it, touch it, and evaluate its quality and value. That’s why I have put a few recommended Amazon options as well as a few websites that sell authentic Moroccan poufs.

Our selection of Moroccan poufs in Amazon:

Genuine Leather Moroccan poufs should not be difficult to take care of and they don’t require much attention anyway. To clean your leather pouf, use a microfiber cloth to dry spills or to remove dust or dirt.

If you are really serious about your leather, like I am, then you may want to buy a leather conditioner so that your pouf is always in top condition.

For handmade kilim poufs, the best way to clean them is definitely not in a washing machine. Use cold water, soap (or shampoo), and softly rub it by hand until all the dirt goes away then dry it in the sun.

A pouf is not something that is ultra-practical. You won’t hear anyone say that they use their pouf every day. However, it is a cool, funky little piece that you can throw here or there to really cool up your living space. And, it’s not completely useless. There are things that you can do with it.
