The weather in Morocco can be quite variable, especially in the spring and fall. In the morning and evening, it can be quite cool, but during the day it can warm up. So, it’s important to pack clothes that can be layered. That way, your kids can take off or put on layers as needed to stay comfortable.

But generally, your clothing list will consist of the following:

  • Trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses
  • Cotton T-shirts, and long sleeve shirts
  • Underwear and socks
  • Pajamas
  • A light jacket
  • Swimwear: Any swimsuit is okay but a wetsuit is great for kids if they want to swim in the sea, as the water can be quite cold. Also, pools are rarely heated in Morocco.
  • A hat or two
  • Sunglasses

You can pack as many as you need of each item, depending on the length of your stay. You may also consider leaving out some of the items and buying them once you arrive in Morocco. T-shirts, shorts, and other kids’ essentials can be found easily in a Souk or a clothing shop.

If you are staying for an extended period of time, laundry facilities can be found in Airbnbs and some Riads. Otherwise, there are many reasonably priced laundry services available.

Comfortable walking shoes are important for kids, especially if you plan on doing a lot of exploring. They don’t need to be fancy, just functional.

When we travel, our go-to shoes for the kids are Keens. They have a toe guard, which is great for protecting little toes, and they are comfortable and light.

If you have the Sahara desert or the Atlas mountains on your itinerary consider going for a more rugged shoe like a hiking boot or a trail runner.

Don’t forget flip-flops for the pool.

Prepare a toiletry bag for your kids that includes, their shampoo, shower gel or bars, toothbrush and paste, wet wipes, hand sanitizers, sunscreen, lip balm, and insect repellent.

If you forget something, don’t worry. You can find most of these items in convenience stores or pharmacies.

I find it very useful to pack a small backpack for the kids. This way, they can carry their own snacks, toys, and gadgets, and water bottles.

This way, they can reach for what they need without having to ask you all the time. It also teaches them to be responsible for their own things.

Choose a lightweight backpack that is age appropriate and not too big or heavy for them

It’s very crucial to stay hydrated in Morocco, especially in the summer. Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit). So, make sure your kids always have a water bottle with them, and that they drink regularly.

A reusable water bottle is great because you can fill it up at your accommodation or on the way. If you don’t already have one, this water bottle comes in different sizes to choose from.

Tap water in Morocco is not recommended to drink, you can only use bottled water. But a reusable bottle with a filtration system like Survimate is also a good idea.

Granola bars, dried fruit and nuts, fruit leathers, breakfast biscuits, and chocolate are all great snacks to pack for kids. If your kids are fussy eaters you can also pack their favorite food if possible.

You can also buy snacks once you arrive in Morocco. Convenient stores and supermarkets like Carrefour sell all kinds of locally-made and international snacks.

Toys, books, and gadgets can keep your kids entertained and busy on long car or plane rides and also during downtimes at the hotel or Riad. Make sure to pack all the needed charges for the trip.

Some great gadgets for kids are the Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet, the Nintendo Switch Lite, and the LeapFrog.

Keep in mind that Morocco has a European plug system and sockets so you might need to bring an adapter.

I always travel with a small first-aid kit. This comes in handy for minor cuts, scrapes, and mosquito bites. Be sure to pack items such as band-aids, antibiotics, and hydrocortisone cream.

If you don’t want to make your own, there are plenty of travel first aid kits sold online.

That includes over-the-counter (OTC) medication or any typical medications your kids use. If your kids have allergies consider buying these cute allergy bracelets to notify people of their condition.

Visiting morocco with a toddler? Add these to the list

If you are traveling with a baby, you might want to consider bringing along a baby carrier. You will certainly need one. Going on a souk tour can be really hard with a stroller. The streets are winded very narrow and busy.

Baby carriers can also be handy when you want to free your hands, like when you are taking pictures or want to eat.

A stroller can be useful only for long walks in the city or if you are visiting a lot of tourist attractions that involve a lot of walking. However, depending on the city and the places you intend to visit, a stroller might be more trouble than it’s worth.

In Morocco, the streets are often very narrow and crowded, making it difficult to maneuver a stroller. You will also have to carry the stroller up and down a lot of stairs.

If you do decide to bring a stroller, make sure it’s lightweight and easy to fold.

As we mentioned in our Morocco with kids guide, hiring a car is the best way to get around Morocco. And if you are hiring a car, you will definitely need a car seat for your baby or toddler.

You can usually request a car seat when you book your rental car. But if you want, you can always bring your own car seat from home. This way, you will be saving some money.

Just to let you know, car seats are not compulsory in Morocco and you are actually allowed to travel with your baby on your lap in the back seat. But we don’t recommend it as it’s not safe.

There is no shortage of baby food and formula in Morocco. You can find them in any supermarket. But if your baby is picky, you can always pack some food and formula from home.

Breastfeeding is highly encouraged in Moroccan society and you can even see women breastfeeding their children in public places. So, if you are breastfeeding, you will not have any problems finding a place to do it.

Don’t bother loading your bag with these. You can find all types of diapers and wipes in Morocco. Pampers, Huggies, and Molfix are all available. Just bring a few with you for the journey and buy the rest when you arrive.

If you haven’t used packing cubes before, you are missing out! Packing cubes are an essential item for families who travel often. They changed my life completely when I started using them.

Packing cubes help you organize your clothes better and save a lot of space in your suitcase. You can buy this packing cube set from Amazon.
